Why We Started Bare la Terre
Bare la Terre did not begin as a business idea. It began as a question. A quiet, unexpected moment between a mother and her child, standing in front of shelves filled with products that felt too much, too soon.
Not so long ago, our children’s eyes lit up at toy stores. Now they light up at Sephora and Space NK. Somewhere along the way, childhood shifted. Play became routine. Curiosity became consumption. And we found ourselves asking, how do we guide them through this without losing what makes this stage of life so important?
Because this is not just about skincare. It is about identity. It is about the moment a child begins to look at themselves and wonder if they need to change something. It is about the language they are learning before they even fully understand their own skin. Words like acids, actives, brightening, correcting. A vocabulary that does not belong to childhood.
We did not feel comfortable saying yes to that. Not because we wanted to say no, but because we wanted to offer something different. Something that felt more aligned with how we see care, and how we want our children to experience it.
Bare la Terre was born from that space.
From the belief that children do not need complicated routines. That their skin is still learning, still balanced, still capable. That care should be gentle, simple, and respectful of that natural process. And that confidence should never be built on the idea that something is missing.
We also saw a gap. Not just in products, but in the conversation. There were brands creating smaller versions of adult skincare, but very few asking the deeper question of whether children needed all of this in the first place. Very few slowing things down. Very few protecting the emotional side of care, not just the physical one.
So we decided to take responsibility for it.
To create products that are made specifically for children. Thoughtfully formulated, without unnecessary complexity, and designed to support the skin barrier rather than disrupt it. But more than that, to create a brand that speaks differently. That reassures rather than pressures. That simplifies rather than adds.
Bare la Terre is not here to encourage more steps. It is here to remind us that sometimes, less is not only enough, it is better.
This is also about parenting. About navigating a world that moves fast, where trends reach children earlier than ever before. About finding a way to stay connected, to guide without imposing, and to create space for conversations that build trust. We are not trying to stop our children from growing. We are trying to protect how they grow.
And of course, it is about the planet they will inherit. The choices we make today, in how we produce, package, and consume, shape the world they will step into tomorrow. Care, for us, extends beyond skin. It is part of a larger responsibility.
Bare la Terre is our response to all of this. A response rooted in care, in simplicity, and in intention.
We begin with care, for children and the planet they will inherit.
