Cookie Policy
This policy explains which cookies and similar technologies our website uses, what they do, and how long they last. It accompanies our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally. There is also a short version for younger readers.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website places on your phone, tablet or computer to remember things between visits. We use the word “cookies” here to also cover similar technologies that store information in your browser, such as local storage and session storage — they do a similar job, and we treat them by the same rules.
2. The three kinds we use
Strictly necessary. These make the website actually work — remembering what is in your basket, completing a checkout, and remembering the choice you made about cookies itself. They do not require consent, and turning them off would break the site.
Analytics. These help us understand how the website is used — in aggregate, such as “40 people looked at this page today” — so we can fix problems and improve it. They run only if you accept them in the cookie banner. Nothing non-essential is set before you choose, refusing is as easy as accepting, and you can change your mind at any time via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.
Marketing. Two pixels, one from Meta (Instagram and Facebook) and one from TikTok, tell those platforms that someone who saw one of our posts or ads went on to visit this site, look at a product or add it to the basket, so we can see whether those posts work. They run only if you accept them in the cookie banner, under the same rules as analytics. We use no other advertising or retargeting cookies.
3. Strictly necessary
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| blt-cart-v1 (local storage) | Remembers what is in your basket | Until you clear your browser data |
| blt-nl-v3 (local storage) | Remembers that you closed the newsletter pop-up, so it does not keep reappearing | Until you clear your browser data |
| Scroll position (session storage) | Remembers where you were on a list page, so the back button returns you to the same spot | Deleted automatically when you close the tab |
| Cookie consent record | Remembers the choice you made in the cookie banner | 12 months, then we ask again |
| Checkout cookies (Shopify) | Keep your checkout session together and secure while you pay — set by Shopify, which hosts our shop | For the checkout session |
| Payment security (Stripe) | Helps our payment processor detect and prevent fraudulent transactions during checkout | Set by Stripe during payment; see Stripe’s policy |
None of the entries stored on this site’s own pages contain your name or anything that identifies you — a basket entry is a list of products, not a person.
4. Analytics - only with your consent
| Name | Provider | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Counts visits and page views in aggregate, so we can see which pages work and which do not. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. | Up to 14 months (matching the retention period in our Privacy Policy) |
| _ck_vid, _ck_sid, _ck_sts, hm_channel_v1 (local and session storage) | Funnel.Ventures (our web agency), on their own server | Records where visitors click and scroll on a page, so we can see which parts of a page are confusing or ignored. Sent with a random visitor number, the page address, your browser type and IP address (used to filter out our own visits). Never your name, your email or anything you type into a form. | Visitor number: until you clear your browser storage. Session number: until you close the tab. |
If you do not accept analytics cookies, nothing here is set and your visit is not measured.
5. Marketing - only with your consent
| Name | Provider | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| _fbp | Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (Instagram, Facebook) | Gives your browser a random number so Meta can tell that a visit to a product page or an add-to-basket came after one of our Instagram or Facebook posts. Meta receives the page address, the product, your browser type and IP address. Never your name or anything you type into a form. Meta’s own rules for this data are in the Meta Cookies Policy. | 90 days |
| _fbc | Meta Platforms Ireland Limited | Set only if you arrive here by clicking a Meta ad or post; remembers that click so the visit can be matched to it. | 90 days |
| blt_attr | Bare la Terre (first-party) | If you arrive through a link that carries campaign parameters (utm_*, fbclid, gclid, ttclid), remembers which post or ad brought you here, so a later order can be matched to it at checkout. Contains only those parameters, nothing about you. Written only after you accept, removed if you decline later. | 30 days |
| _ttp, _tt_enable_cookie | TikTok Technology Limited (Ireland) and TikTok Information Technologies UK Limited | The same for TikTok: a random number for your browser, so TikTok can tell that a visit to a product page or an add-to-basket came after one of our TikTok posts or ads. TikTok receives the page address, the product, your browser type and IP address. Never your name or anything you type into a form. TikTok’s rules for this data are in the TikTok Cookies Policy. | 13 months |
If you do not accept marketing cookies, neither pixel is loaded and nothing here is set. Purchases are still reported to Meta and TikTok by our checkout provider (Shopify), as described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Services that may set cookies when you use them
Some features are provided by partners named in our Privacy Policy. They set cookies only in connection with the feature itself:
- Klaviyo (our email platform) — if you sign up to our newsletter, Klaviyo may set cookies to recognise your submission and manage your subscription.
- Judge.me (our reviews platform) — displays product reviews and may set functional cookies for the review widget.
7. How to manage cookies
- Use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer at any time to change your choice.
- Your browser can also block or delete cookies — look for “cookies” in its settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will break parts of the site, such as the basket.
8. Changes and contact
If we add, change or remove a cookie, we will update this page first. Questions? Email privacy@barelaterre.com.
